- Do I have to own a gun before I register or start the class?
Absolutely not! If you don't own a gun, that's ok with us. We will rent you a semi-automatic gun for $10.
- How much ammunition will I need to qualify?
You will need 50 rounds of ammo. The gun range sells ammo for a resonable price.
- Do you guys fingerprint us?
As of 3/1/2011, DPS no longer accepts rolled fingerprints. Fingerprints must be digital and must be done through L1 Identity fingerprinting services. We will give you full details on how to get this done during the class.
- Do you guys notarize our affidavits in our DPS packets?
We stand strong on saying we offer a complete class! Yes we do!
- How much is the state license fee and is it included in the class price?
The state fee is NOT included in the class price. This is a seperate fee which you pay to DPS when sending in your Concealed Handgun License packet. - How often are your classes?
Right now our classes are once a month. Usually the 3rd Saturday of the month. We only offer classes on Saturdays as of right now.
- Where do you teach your classes and which gun range do you use to qualify at?
We teach our classes at La Quinta Inn & Suites - in the meeting room. The address is 3490 East Sam Houston Pkwy South, Pasadena, TX 77505. The gun range we use is Pasadena Gun Center located at 206 Shaw St Pasadena, TX 78506.
- How long is the class?
Texas mandates 10 hours of instruction time for new licenses so class is from 7:30am - 7:00pm. Renewals are from 7:30am - 12:30pm.
- What caliber gun can I qualify with at the gun range?
Texas DPS will allow you to qualify with a minimum of .32 caliber.
- What type, Make, or caliber gun do you recommend I own?
This answer is really hard to answer. This really all boils down to what are you comfortable with? A gun is an investment and we recommend you treat it as an investment. Several gun ranges rent out different caliber and makes of guns for you to try before you buy. We recommend you try a few before purchasing one to make sure your making the right decision for YOU!
- What type of holster should I buy?
This answer is another really hard one to answer. This really all boils down to what are you comfortable with? You can visit several sports stores such as Bass Pro Shop or Carters Country where they will let you try on the holster so you can see how it feels.
- Where can I buy a long-gun or AR-15?

- Do you guys offer any other discounts?
You bet we do! Seniors get $10 off. Military (active or vet) also gets $10 off.
Do you guys offer group discounts?
You bet we do! If you have 10 or more people, we offer $10 off per person. If you have 15 or more people, we offer $15 off per person. The group organizer gets to come to class FREE of charge. Call Wes Geddes for more details: 713-292-8792.
